Explaining to your boss that you can't get your work done because you couldn't find a wireless hotspot in China will become harder, especially if you happen to live in Shanghai.
By May 2008, Shanghai's Jiading district will become the first wireless city in China, using new technology such as Mesh Wi-Fi and WiMAX.
The perk for living in Shanghai? Experience broadband-like wireless for free. Yes, bring your own computer along and you won't have to pay a cent. To experience free wireless now? Head for Bole Square or the nearby government buildings.
As always, better to live in Shanghai than Beijing if you're into innovation. But that doesn't mean that other cities in China won't have free high speed Wi-Fi experience; Beijing and Tianjin are the next cities on schedule. By 2010, more than 1,500 Chinese cities will be equipped with free Wi-Fi.
So perhaps it's about time Starbucks offers free wireless as well?
