The emergence of China as an economic superpower

It's Valentine's Day tomorrow. A big day for those with significant others waiting patiently at home for them after work, but just another day of heavy drinking and video games for others. Nonetheless, Valentine's Day has become a culturally popular holiday in China, where money exceeds purpose for some living in coastal cities such as Shanghai, the Paris of the East.

Interviewed by Reuters, here are some Valentine's Day ideas some Shanghainese will be using to woo their husbands and wives. 

1. Buying a 40,000 yuan Cartier wrist watch.

2. Reserving a 9,000 yuan Wine-and-Dine package, which include limousines, butlers, candle-lit dinners and private concerts.

3. Booking a 28,888 yuan overnight stay at JW Marriott Hotel's Presidential Suite.

4. Adding 188,888 yuan for a romantic cruise on a yacht along Hunagpu river with the above overnight stay.

5. Paying 800 yuan for a one course dinner at an exclusive restaurant.

6. Bidding 20,000 yuan for a dinner at a more exclusive restaurant at the Bund.
