As most of us know, export of toys and other merchandise from China to the US has become more of a burden in recent months than anything. Fingers have been pointing back and forth, but ultimately, who is to blame for the harm that these products cause to consumers? And perhaps a more important question is: how can we protect consumers from using these dangerous products, many of whom are children and cannot judge between safe and harmful products?
No worries, for a website was developed by NGO watchgroups to protect children from unsafe toys, be it Chinese-made or American-made. World Against Toys Causing Harm, or W.A.T.C.H., Inc., has developed a list of the most dangerous toys in 2007. These span from already dangerous sounding toys, e.g. Jack Sparrow's Spinning Dagger, Spider Man 3 New Goblin Sword and Rubber Band Shooter, to some rather innocuous sounding ones, e.g. Dora the Explorer Lamp and My Little Born Baby.
Nonetheless, the website provides consumers with yet another safety net against dangerous toy and export goods. Regardless of who is responsible for producing harmful products, protecting our children is of utmost importance and we should focus our efforts on filtering out the bad rather than assigning unconstructive blame around the globe.
