Here's an interesting find from the cyberworld:
What is it? It's a website that provides 3-D maps of China's largest cities. 3-D meaning better than Google Maps. And it also provides better coverage in locations where one can't zoom in maximum using Google without the result being graphics with huge pixels.
Edushi include maps of cities such as Hangzhou, Qingdao, Suzhou, Shijiazhuang, Changsha, Chengdu, Xiamen, Xi'an, Harbin, Dalin, Hefei, Ningbao and others. I have some screenshots below.
I've tested it out already and they look like models from Sim City 2000, but better. A very interesting aspect of these maps is that they utilize local knowledge, meaning that they know where the local gas station is, or where the nearest McDonald's is from your 5-star hotel in Shanghai.
That's something you definitely won't get from using Google Maps.
However, the downside is that, probably due to low bandwidth and a lack of good servers, these maps take forever to download (downloads piece by piece). Nonetheless, they're a good resource and I'd recommend it to any tourist or businessman thinking to traveling into inner China alone (without local guides). Or alternatively, a person who's very into Google Earth.
