As a kind of closure to Blog Action Day, I thought I should put up some links on China's new environmentally-friendly image in its fight against global warming:
"China Considers Environmental Tax on Polluters"
-- a viable option, but have to discuss with relevant ministries. Does not include estimates of how effective this scheme would be. A follow up to taking environmental costs into account for electricity pricing.
"China to Start 10-yearly Pollutant Sources Census"
-- Hu plans to investigate sources of pollution so as to determine what measures to take in the new Five Year Plan. Survey aims to find "quantities, sectors and regions distribution of various types of pollutant sources, their volumes of emissions, destinations and cleanup facilities and treatment statuses."
Perhaps this is China's start in creating sustainable growth. What do you think?
