China's largest trade fair, the China Import and Export Commodities Fair (more commonly known as the Canton Fair) kicks off today in Guangzhou. The fair is expected to attract more than 15,000 domestic and foreign businesses, with more than 50 countries represented. More than 6,000 corporate and institutional buyers are expected to attend.
The fair was traditionally a means of promoting Chinese export goods to foreign buyers. However, amid heated debates surrounding China's trade surplus and WTO regulations, the Canton Fair decided to allow foreign firms to exhibit for the first time in its last biannual event in April.
