According to China Business Services Blog, a survey of some "411 affluent Chinese respondents," from some of mainland China's largest cities, claimed the following are well-known and prestigious brands:
1. Rolex
This ubiquitous watch brand is more often than not a knockoff in China, but definitely a sign of wealth to possess, albeit a fake, one. Thinking of doing business in China? Get one of these to show off your power in the boardroom.
2. Lacoste
A popular casual wear choice, popular for its old-man, entrepreneurial polo shirt looks (usually made from a combination of unnatural color and thin material) and matching shoe selections. Go to a golf range in China and you'll understand.
3. Valentino
(BIT:V)
Can't imagine a man (or boy) on the streets of Shanghai without formal trousers, but this brand is only for those who can afford it. High class, yet culturally appropriate.
4. Chanel
Something for the ladies. Funny thing, I would've expected Louis Vuitton to be more popular, but I suppose continuous and prevalent forgery degrades even a luxury brand.
5. Christian Dior (EPA:CDI)
The most popular sunglasses choice. Also adds to everything else a woman needs that Chanel doesn't already take care of: cosmetics, random accessories and shoes.
Worthy of mention: Bally. What other brand could complete a Valentino suit without ruining it? This shoe brand is in the same league as Chanel and Valentino as the most widely-owned luxury brands. But they still can't beat Lacoste in popularity. No one can.
I bet you know a Chinese person who owns all of this stuff, right?
