Wal-Mart’s New Expansion Plan is Questionable

According to China Business Weekly, Wal-Mart has planned to open 18 to 20 new stores in China this year. If you consider that the company has opened only 56 stores in the past ten years, this new strategic adjustment was truly impressive.

However, Wal-Mart may need to wait several years longer to see whether its new plan was a right move or not.

Wal-Mart stores in China are usually located in the suburban areas. For most Chinese customers who do not own cars, Wal-Mart is not a convenient place to go shop.

Even for those who own cars, Wal-Mart may still not an ideal store to go if people are concerned about the high fuel prices. Traditionally, most Chinese are very sensitive with their living costs.
