A report from the New York Times showed that the U.S government approved a $2.4 million grant to finance a new software research that would allow the government to monitor negative opinions of the United States or its leaders in newspapers and other publications overseas.
The software would be able to differentiate the statements like “This spaghetti is good.” and “This spaghetti is not very good — it’s excellent,” said Claire T. Cardie, a professor of computer science at Cornell University.
Sounds funny, doesn’t it?
However, the software would also associate with a confidence rating for each “opinion” that it evaluates, and would indicate whether the writer was anti-American or not.
This is not funny.
