Laura Mallory, a suburban mother in Atlanta, GA, asked the state Board of Education to remove Harry Potter books from school libraries. She said the popular fiction series are harmful to children. She suggested that teachers should assign other books like the Bible as student reading.
Referring to the recent rash of deadly assaults at school, she said Harry Potter that promote evil help foster this kind of culture where school shooting happen. If students read the Bible, the school shooting wouldn’t happen.
To some extent, Laura Mallory may be right. She correctly pointed out the correlation between culture and violence. Though I don’t think Harry Potter had anything to do with school shooting.
