Yahoo! Assistant

Yahoo! China has been accused for forcing the installation of Hooligan software, mainly at Yahoo! Assistant on internet users. The software includes spyware, trackware and malicious software such as pornographic information.

Yahoo! Assistant is a browser helper for Internet Explorer which pops up on your computer uncontrollably, might steal your personal information, and introduce viruses.

The Beijing-based Anti-Hooligan Software Federation launched a legal campaign against Yahoo! China on Monday according to People’s Daily.

Yahoo! Assistant generated approximately 200 million Yuan (US$25 million) for the company before June 2005. The Yahoo! China spokesman said the company now asks for users’ permission before the installation.
