 College students argued that English fluency had already become a required skill by many employers. In some companies – especially big companies, English is the only language used for communication. According to the Chinese National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, by the year 2010, there will be about 100 million foreigners learning the Chinese language. There are more Chinese learning English right now, though. |
“In 20 years time, the number of English speakers in China is likely to exceed the number of speakers of English as a first language in all the rest of the world” Mr. Brown said it during a speech in Beijing. It is estimated that the total number of English speakers is about 1 billion. There are 380 million native English speakers and the rest are second language speakers. I think that English language will be a universal language.

In the coming years, I think English will take preference over all languages, even chinese. It's going to be the Universal language. Many old languages will cease to be spoken or learned. No doubt, we can survive with English very well.
