Solar Power for the Beijing Olympic Games
By the end of May 2006, Italy and China had signed 60 co-operation agreements on environmental protection. Two of them are about to use solar energy to provide water heating and air-conditioning for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

The first project, which is already completed, is the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee’s headquarters.

The second one regards the buildings in the Olympic Village and it is currently under construction.

These projects are based on the development of solar energy technologies to replace the use of coal for distributing energy generation. China faces serious challenges in energy demands, but 95 percent of new buildings fail to reach energy-saving standards
