Saving Face by Wasting Food
According to a recent survey, over 80 percent of diners in Beijing, the capital city of China, have wasted food at restaurants. These show-off manners at the table created a huge amount of leftover food waste – about 1050 tons each day.

In general, to show-off their class and wealth, many Chinese tend to order many more dishes than what their guests and friends can consume in restaurants. Packing up leftovers is considered greedy and disgraceful.

Lately, many restaurants in the city have taken actions. The customers are usually reminded not to order too much, but the point is that people should think more about how to enjoy foods and times with their friends, rather than their social class.
