Lately, about thousands and thousands of singles showed up in the group dating party, which was organized by local women associations to make friends. For example, virtually 10,000 people joined a group dating event in Shanghai in May. The participants said that they were less nervous to sit around groups of people instead of one-to-one dating, and it was also nice to see someone come up to you for exchanging phone numbers.
The party offers food and drinks, and usually charges 100 Yuan (US$ 12.50) for each person. A local source said the group dating party is open to all singles.
