The first station in the Middle East owned by a Chinese person went on air earlier this week.
The satellite station has a potential coverage of 21 countries, including some in North Africa.
It's potiential viewership could be as many as 400 million.
The mission of the station is to give information about China to Arabi-speaking countries.
Some of the programs to be offered according to the Shanghai Daily are:
1. China Business Travel Express
2. A Window to Chinese Industries ( I think I'll put this one on my Tivo that I don't have.)
3. Chinese Culture programs
4. Business reports - but who you going to trust?
Overall, the program owners hope that the Arab audience will come to have a better understanding China and perhaps an inkling to go and do business with the Chinese.
Cultural exchange is a great thing in any event if/when the viewers have the critical thinking ability to discern truth from fiction.
I hope this Dubai TV station succeeds in bridging the gap between Arabs and Chinese.

Dubai is grewing rapidly. I believe it has to change its name to International Dubai. All the investors from all over the world rushing to invest in Dubai, so China doesn't want to be left behind. A few years ago those who were not Arab or born in Dubai wouldn't be able to purchase a property in Dubai, but now Dubai opend the door to every one. The best are moving to Dubai. I don't know what they saw on that land that I am not aware of it. It could not be the weather. May be they enjoy the slavery market that sales young girls and women! Or may be they don't know that 80% of business there are owned by Rafsanjani's family! (Former president of Iran)
