ACFTU is the All-China Federation of Trade Unions - established by the ruling Communist party. It boasts of 150 million members.
The ACFTU is pressuring Wal-Mart to establish a union....which doesn't make sense to me. Shouldn't it be the workers who are pushing for a union?
Shouldn't ACFTU be hanging around the back doors of the 60 Wal-Marts in China and asking, "Are you guys happy?"
ACFTU thinks ALL foreign-funded or transnational companies should unionise.
I think all groups of employees who feel they are mistreated as a whole should come together to voice their opinion and form a union as an absolute last resort.
Wal-Mart plans to hire an extra 150,000 people in China over the next 5 years. Easy math = almost 100 hires EACH DAY!
Yep, seems to me people should be forming groups already and start crying 'foul!'
I hate unions. And I can't imagine them being of any more worth in China, either.
What do you think?
