Best Wishes to Shaq
Recently, there was a touching story spread across the Chinese website. It is said that many years ago, young Shaq met a mother and her son in an athletic supply store. The son, who loved playing basketball, eagerly wanted a pair of basketball shoes. The mother didn’t want to disappoint her son, but those basketball shoes were too expensive to her, and she just couldn’t find any other pair of shoes that she could afford. Young Shaq felt very sorry when he saw them walk out the store with empty hands. He swore to himself that someday, if he could sell his own line of shoes, he would price them low enough so that people, like that mother and son, could afford them.

Last Monday in Beijing,
Shaquille O’Neal signed a five-year deal with Li Ning Co. to market his Dunkman line of basketball products, including shoes and jerseys in China beginning next year. It is good to see Shaq’s dream came true in the world's most populous country.

I am gald to see that there is still some good people in the world of sports. I wish that all people could be this nice.

dori and Daniel, Thank you for making such decent comments.

I think the Shaq story was very moving. I am glad he decided to lower the price for the sake of children.

That is such a cool thing Shaq is doing. He is my favorite basketball player.

I think that what Shaq is doing is wonderful. It is nice to see that a famous ball player enjoys bringing a smile to a kids face. I also like the fact that he realizes that money is an option in some lifestyles.

Wow, this is such an inspiring story. I wish more stars would consider making choices like this. Think of how many shoes they would sell. Prices lower will result in more sold, end the end who comes out ahead. Happy consumers & happy producers.

i think that was a very thoughtful thing for him to do. i believe more people should do that and not think about making money.

I'm really glad to see someone of such fortune take time to market a product that the less fortunate can afford and enjoy.

what I think is that he is not loosing any money on this deal but that shows the stravagant I think that he is just making his shoe prices a little more affortable for the childrens ant that way he can sell more and probably even make more money than other peple because more people buy his shoe brans because of the big difference in the price.

I think that this action by Shaquille O'Neal shows that there are still a few people in the world that really care about the common good. He is a very wealthy man, and although he will make some profit from the sale of the shoes, he doesn't need to make a huge profit. He makes plenty of money from playing basketball. He will also sell more shoes because they are affordable to lower-class citizens. It is my personal belief that more people should have the same mindset as Shaq and focus on the common good, not just on increasing their own wealth.

I think the story of Shaq was great. I am glad someone decided to do that for the sake of children.

I believe that what Shaq is doing is great because other brands of shoes are selling a name for 79.99 and 89.99. If more companies followed Shaq's example they would be able to sell more shoes for a cheaper price but in the end make more money.

I think shoq is great for trying to help poor people to afford shoes. He should be commended.

Way to go Shaq! Nice to know that even though you didn't have to help out the average working american, that you took the time to do so anyway!

I think that this is really good of shaq. I'm glad to see that someone with money cares about the less fortunate. I feel like I would do the same thing. This story touched me.

Great story.
