I am of the opinion that if Hollywood wants to make money they should shoot a scene, any scene, in China. Or, better yet, but an established or up-and-coming Chinese star in the flick so that Chinese will come watch.
Well now, it seems Martin Scorsese knows how good an idea this is. Scorsese has decided to do a remake of a Hong Kong crime thriller - "Infernal Affairs."
Great title!
But, Scorsese has changed the title to "The Departed." It will release on my little sis' b'day - October 6th.
It is rare for Hollywood to remake Hong Kong films. But, it is not rare for Hollywood to want to make money...and Chinese customers are where it's at these days.
Andrew Lau, the original maker of the film considers it an honor. If he gets paid well for it, he will consider it an even bigger honor.
I'll go see it, too.
What about you?

I'm a big fan of Hong Kong cinema and a big fan of Martin Scorsese. I will definitely go and see this movie. I just wish John Woo would make some more Hong Kong actioners like "Hard boiled" and "The Killer" instead of those crappy Hollywood movies he's been making like "Broken Arrow" and "Paycheck." Hong Kong cinema takes everything to the extreme and I love that. I liked the original title too.
"Infernal Affairs" sounds much more intriguing than "The Departed." Leave it to the Americans to screw up a good thing.
