A Spanish web site recently gave 10 reasons why people should study Chinese.
Here are four of them.
1. The Chinese culture is full of magic and legends
2. Mandariin is spoken by the largest population in the world
3. China has staggering economic strength and potential
4. Enterprises are increasingly entering China
An American family that adopted a Chinese baby stopped by a local Jr. college to enroll in Chinese classes as soon as they returned from China with their new youngster.
When they were asked why they wanted to study Chinese they responded:
"We just adopted a Chinese baby and when she grows up we want to be able to talk to her."
Uh...there are lots of reasons to learn a foreign language, not just Chinese.
But, Chinese seems to be hot for now.
Are you studying Chinese?
Why or why not?

I am not currently studying Chinese unless you count Bill Belew's English class. I currently don't have the time to invest in learning Chinese.
i'd like to, for the myths and legends factor alone. At this point in my life though, there is so much going on, the last thing I need is one more thing to take up learning.
Some of my favorite movies are Chinese (and Mandarin) language films. It would be nice to not have to read the subtitles and still be able to enjoy the emotional depth of the films. I can't stand when they dub them into English. It kills it for me.
Chinese would be something I'd love to learn in the future. It ranks top of my list next to Spanish and Ebonics.
