Corrupt Businessmen Get Executed in China

Wealthy businessman, Yuan Baojing, was escorted to a lethal injection van and his cremated ashes were delivered to his wife three hours later.

Wow! That's what you get when you cheat, lie and steal in China.

At first, Yuan was spared the death penalty when his wife ponied up $6 billion in oil company stock and gave it to the national government.

Of course, he got that $6 billion in the first place from a large state-owned company. In effect, he just gave it back.

However, before that, he amassed his own fortune by investing the money.

It is said that he was surprised when they showed up to escort him to his execution.

Yep, I'd be surprised, too...if someone told me my wife would get my ashes by this evening.

Isn't this level of stealing on the same level as the Enron guys? What would they do if a lethal injection van were parked outside their houses/jail cells?

It almost makes sense - a little extreme perhaps - but definitely a deterrent of sorts.

What do you think?

Gotta say the chinese government is very efficient

What do I think?

I think you are stretched a little thin: 10 short paragraphs, 180 words, too many typos and other gaffes....

1) three hourse
2) WoW!
3) ", so,"
4) in affect
5) tave it to
6) by investing THE money (emphasis mine; what money?)
7) he did was surprised

Stretched too thin is right. Thanks for the kind reminder to slow down...take deep breaths and check my spelling, too.

BTW, I like short paragraphs/sentences. I think it easier to read.

I think I made all the corrections.

Bill, I grew up in Asian Culture. English is my second language. Posts with "short paragraphs/sentences" are usually easier to read and understand for me.

Having that said, your post maybe too short for American born readers. You may want to explain deeper if you intend to promote understanding of different cultures. For example, you can explain why $6 billion stealing in China would cost a death penalty. Perhaps you can illustrate from historical view point, such as what's the punishment in Qing dynasty (1644-1911), Ming dynasty (1368-1644) or further back. Readers will learn that serious stealing had been receiving death penalty in the past in China. Thus Yuan Baojing's sentence is an extension of Chinese history.

BTW, I like your post.

CJK,

Could please kindly write to me at

belew at zhonghuarising dot com

We are looking for another person to write blogs here at Zhonghuarising...and if you have the time and inclination, I think you might be a good fit.

You know much more about China, her history and such than I do.

I would love to exchange thoughts with you about writing for us.
