
Everyone has heard how cold it is in Siberia. Well, maybe not everyone. But, at least many people have. Well, it's true. In fact, it is so cold in Siberia that people tell jokes in November but nobody laughs until March - when the words thaw out.
Russia and China met in Harbin, China - in China's coldest region - to sign a deal to produce furniture, assemble trucks and export energy equipment to China.
The deal was worth some $2.5 billion total.
China and Russia hope to increase bilateral trade with a goal of $60 billion by 2010.
I spent a few weeks in Harbin, China. A friend and I visited the Ice festival - statues of ice, slides made of ice, and stupid people cutting holes in the ice and swimming in the river.
The temperature was -26F degrees. Whew, were we cold.
I think that when China and Russia signed their recent deal, it was necessary for them to thaw out the ink in their pens first.
The relationship between Russia and China, however, definitely seems to be heating up.
