Wal-Mart...wrong. Carrefour is bigger.
Carrefour has 79 stores in 32 Chinese cities compared to Wal-mart's 60 locations in 30 cities.
Carrefour sold nearly twice as much as Wal-Mart - $2.2 billion to $1.2 billion.
Carrefour seems to be more adept at adapting to local cultures...their supply chain includes 18-wheel trucks as well as three-wheel tricycles.
Come Carrefour stores are also halal - permissible under Islamic dietary law. Wal-Mart could likely care less about such things.
"We do it cheaper," is the Wal-Mart motto.
But, maybe Carrefour can do it cheaper AND better.
