I attended a recent Investment in China and India Summit hosted by Finanical Research Associates I will use this forum to share some of the slide/insights that were given at this summit for the benefit of those hoping/thinking/planning on investing in an Asian country - China, India or Japan.
Track Record Analysis
Does the fund manager have an attributable private equity track record? How is it verified?
If the fund manager only has a background as a corporate manager or as an investment banker, how relevant is their background to private equity investing?
If a local team without private equity experience is sponsored by an offshore investor with a track record, how should it be analyzed?
If a fund manager does have a track record, is it relevant?
If you don't know these answers about your fund manager then you have the wrong fund manager.
The single most important, well almost, qualification of your fund manage is - has s/he been on the ground in the country that you want to invest in?
