There are some 30-40 million families or 200 million people in China that now have solar water heaters in China.
It's a kind of keep-up-with-the-Wangs kind of thing.
Peer pressure exists in China, especially among the poor farmers. If Wang gets a solar water heater than Hu wants one and so does He.
The solar collectors cost $160-$750.
The industry is growing at a rate of 20-30% meaning it will double by 2010. At that time about 1% of energy in China will come from solar power. 1% of anything in China is a lot. In this case it is about 22.5 million tons of standard coal..the black sooty emitting kind that's not good for anybody.
Of course, explosive growth is predicted in this industry...but then growth is predicted in every industry in China.
But this is one that can benefit those of us 10,000 miles or more away, no?
What do you think?
