Naked Protest at Chinese Factory in Shenyang

The Chinese Daily reported today about this woman launching a nude protest in order to get her money back from her factory employer.

The 26 year old woman was a migrant worker. She came. She worked. And she lefft without getting paid the 8,000 yuan (abt $1000) she was owed.

It seems the police showed up but did NOT arrest her. This begs the question - well, what did they do? Take her out for coffee?

She was exposed for about 3 daylight hours and created quite a traffic jam of onlookers and passersby. I used to be able to do that just by paying for something at a toy store - people flocked just to see what this laowai  foreigner was buying.

Hunger strikes, peasant strikes....but I have never heard of a nude strike in China, have you?

It is still not known if she got her money back...but perhaps other people offered her money for other reasons.

What do you think?

I think the police didn't do anything, at least at first because they didn't know if she was telling the truth or not. Either that, or they've seen it become a more common case and the Chinese government hasn't made a human rights plan to deal with it yet, because apparently, they're not very good at that. Not very good at that at all.

They just need a lot of help to learn how to deal with things in a peaceful manner most beneficial to all. I think many of the "higher ups" think that is not possible. Where there's a will, there's a way.
