The Committee of 100 survey that I have mentioned here in the past asked the question of American opinion leaders and the general public -
Do you know someone, friend or family member, who has adopted a Chinese baby?
This question intrigued me greatly because this is something my wife and I are considering.
Nearly one in four Americans (23%) know someone who has adopted a Chinese baby.
These results remind me of a couple that stopped by a local junior college to sign up for Chinese lessons.
When they were asked why they wanted to learn the language, they replied -
"We just adopted a Chinese baby. And when he grows up we want to be able to talk to him." 8-)

Hmmm... wonder if their sample was geographically skewed... 23% seems pretty high to me. In the Bay Area, absolutely, but I don't think it's that likely in the middle part of the country. Me, I know one family... mine.
