
It is predicted that China will become a major market for legal music downloads with annual revenues of $222million by 2008.
But for this to become a reality China will have to get tough on copyright, patent and trademark laws.
Lenovo and Huawei have agreed to sell their products pre-loaded with Microsoft OS. This is just one indication of the PC industry's desire to combat piracy. There are still a couple of thousand other markets, however.
But, according to VUNET patent applications in China continue to grow by 20 percent each year and Huawei's 3,409 patent applications are second only to Samsung's 3,508.
If china wants its patents honored, they will have to learn to honor others'.
That's the bottom line here.
